The 1999 SL500 with Java
and
chestnut burl interior. This is a new
& exciting combination for Mercedes.
Also new in '99, are the spoke layout
and the wood insert at the top of
the wheel.
Our contributions include the 3-piece
steering wheel and center console
with tambour. A decision has to
be made, whether to make the top
piece all wood in the more traditional
manner, or with this insert a la the
SL600. Clients are equally divided on
this aesthetic issue. If one opts for the
insert, the wheel has to be
re-leathered, because the seams
are different. This client wanted to
emulate the SL600 as closely
as possible.
We had to be good.
