This 500SL wheel has 2-strikes of non-
conformity against it:
First, it's probably the only SL wheel that
is a full 360 degree walnut burl.
Second, it's certainly the only one in
captivity that has an enlarged grip -
1/8" thicker and 1/16" wider than normal.
But then who wants to be normal?

While the background in this photo
has been rendered, the factory wood
in this S320 actually is a burnt orange
color. The owner of the car tried in
vain to obtain a matching steering
wheel, both here and in Europe.
Once he made contact with us; it was
our knowledge of veneers, and
extensive inventory that helped to
produced the final result.
This was designed in calyptus burl.

This wheel, like many of our wheels, is
made with walnut burl which we book-match.
Book-matching is an extra step in the
process of wheel building, which creates
a mirror image in the pattern of the
wood, producing an aesthetic symmetry.
We decided to make the M-Class wheel
with one large segment of wood,
creating a cleaner and more subtle
appearance.
The lower section is always an option. |

The Lexus LX470 and the Toyota
Land Cruiser employ the same factory
steering wheel. Since we had no airbag
handy for this photo, we rendered in a
more interesting one than the factory's.
The shift knob and the brake handle are
also available from us in walnut burl. |
