1996 was the last year Jaguar
produced the elegant XJS. Already a
classic, its magnetic appeal is a
combination of graceful styling,
flowing lines and beautiful appointments.
So how do you improve on a legend?
Our client was a passionate collector.
He invested more than a year to find the right XJS. He was in love.
But with reservations.
The factory wood was a sore point.
A case of unfulfilled love.
What began as a want to improve the
factory wooden steering wheel, became
a directive to redesign the interior wood.
Special veneers and colors were
selected
to distinguish this interior.
To complete the dash transformation,
we separated the instrument housing from the
cluster, in order to veneer the surround of the gauges in the same burl
wood.
After numerous discussions
with
our client, we agreed that the steering
wheel layout demanded a solution as
shown here, with 4 pieces of wood.
This retains the tension between
the high gloss of the wood and and the
supple and tactile character of the leather.
A one-of-a-kind creation.
The airbag and horn buttons were dyed to
to match the color of the
leather, and the
horn logos were replaced in white. Seamless!
In changing all of
the factory wood to a more richly colored wood, we offer exciting
options to people that want a totally personalized look. This approach is
in keeping with
the great English coach building tradition personified by Rolls-Royce and
Bentley Motorcars.
Cheers!
